Cottage in Bléré

Charming private Carriage House in Bléré, Loire Valley

Experience the charm of a French small town in a 19th century village house which used to be the stable for the nearby Belvedere. Stay in “ a town in the country” , everything is within walking distance, shops as well as river banks and countryside. There are the best butchers, bakers and pastry shops!

Located 10 minutes from Amboise – by car – one of the most visited cities in France, recently listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.

A separate entrance – from a cobblestone yard – takes you to your “French nest”.

Although you can cook at home, meals are a special treat in the area! You can help yourself from twice weekly open air markets and local shops.

La Chevalerie, is hidden from the street, self-catering 19th century house, with a private cobblestone yard, quiet and sunny.

What a luxury !…walk to the baker’s – a stone throw – to buy fresh baguette and croissants in the morning.

  1. Pierre and I enjoyed an exquisite week in Blere at Le Belvedere in the charming gite accommodations of what was once the stables for this beautiful c. 18th/19th (?) century property. The gite adjoins the main manoir, but is oh so private with its own side entrance and it is completely secluded by a hedgerow of trees, shrubs and walls, giving it such an intimate feeling although you are right in the middle of the delightful and picturesque French village of Blere. As for the accommodations, inside the renovated gite, the interior is spacious enough for a family or even 2+ couples traveling together. Upstairs, there are two big bedrooms with large, open window views of the courtyard or garden and a shared bath at the end of the hall. Downstairs at the entry, there is a big living room with TV (and sleeping accommodations for more guests if desired), a dining area, an Internet access desk, and a bookshelf of books and tourist brochures of the area. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee-maker as well as all utensils for cooking your fine, French, newly-inspired cuisine. Off the kitchen, there is a downstairs bath and laundry room combined. Outside, there is a lovely courtyard to this stable gite of old stone paving and rose gardens sprouting with fragrant, colorful blooms in the old stone horse troths. So picturesque to bask in the warm morning sun at the little French cafe table and chairs and enjoy a simple morning “petite dejeuner” of cafe au lait and fresh croissants with scrumptious homemade jams by Dominque. Or lounge in the chaise lounges under the umbrella with a cool glass of wine in the early evening after a tour of the many, many chateaux in the region – Chenonceaux (breathtaking – one of the world’s MUST SEES, in our opinion!), Villandry (the gardens are a visual feast of flowers and veggies!); Chaumont (artistic and fairy-tale enchantment gardens!); Amboise (the quaintest French Village you’ll ever visit with Clos Luce – the home and invention museum of Leonardo Da Vinci! – And don’t forget to get your chocolate fix at Bigot’s Chocolateer!) or Chambord (with da Vinci’s amazing staircase) – there’s oh so many castles to visit in this region of France, known as “The Valley of 1,000 Castles!” You couldn’t find a more hospitable couple than Dominique and Jean-Renaud Guillomot to have as your hosts when choosing to visit this beautiful area of France on the Loire and Cher Rivers! Both hosts are French, but speak English fluently. Le Belvedere was the childhood home of Jean-Renaud and he and Dominique know every road leading to every castle in this region of France, not to mention from the air, as well, because Jean-Renaud is a retired pilot and for a reasonable fee, you can have your own personal airplane tour of this whole region from the air! He takes you on a 12 castle tour that includes every major chateaux. Stunning and exciting at the same time! What an amazing extra benefit that staying at the gite at Le Belvedere provided! We will surely be back next year as we only were able to take in just a few of the chateaux in a week and every one of them is so unique and beautiful with exquisitely maintained gardens and grounds that we want to experience other ones in our next trip. If you want a lovely place to stay with genuinely helpful French hosts who know the region, lots of privacy, and easy access to so many World Heritage sites that you can’t even count them, then check out Le Belvedere in Blere, France. You can’t imagine how glad you will be that you decided to rest and relax on your long-awaited French vacation right here in the middle of this beauty that’s yours for the taking!!!
